Quite a few words, in fact. Just over a week ago, I posted about how those claiming that the Middle Ages were a time in which the Catholic Church sought to control and cruelly subjugate all “for their own benefit” are both historically ignorant and theologically bereft. I don’t want to end it there, since as it turns out we have the topic popping up again after the Cosmos fiasco. Instead, I would like to add to the mountain of dispelled nonsense, with two documentaries. The first is on the Inquisition that includes context even most Catholics are unaware of:
The second is the first of a 13-episode documentary featuring Dr. Thomas Woods, Jr., about how the Church has not only fostered no enmity for science during human history, but has been the single driver of scientific, economic, and social progress throughout the rise of Western culture. Click through to watch them all.
Next time someone brings up this idiocy, maybe there is enough material here to give them pause. If not, I would advise abandoning the conversation. There is no sense in arguing with fools. They will only pull you down to their level and beat you with experience.
