Personally, I agree with his justification, however reality dictates circumstances and reality is: secure borders are an imaginary term… like unicorns and leprechauns. Also compounding the issue is the political and religious refugees who are brought in legally and still rely on the welfare state. They come through my clinic all the time- and they aren’t able to find gainful employment because of language barriers or poor skills (like the ability to count money in a cash register) . We can’t keep handing out fish – we need to teach how to throw out some nets at some point. I just don’t see any “simple fix” or single piece of legislation that will fix this aside from abolition of welfare programs to remove the incentive to immigrate without a plan for self support.
