Until Further Titling – Week 2; Covenantal Love
People have a VERY hard time understanding this argument. The argument is not that you cannot be good if you don’t believe in God. It is rather that if there is no God, there is no good an evil, AND if there IS good and evil, there must be God. See?:
people have a “very hard time” “understanding” this argument because…..it is a laughable bunch of nonsense. i’m sure people would also have a “hard time” “understanding” my “argument” if i said that “if humans exist, then they must like the NFL and lite beer”. or “if the sky is blue, then apples must be red”. there is no connection between “morality” and “god” whatsoever, no matter how badly you wish there was, just like there is no connection whatsoever between any of the above things.
“the very existence of morality proves the existence of something above nature and above man. just as a design suggests a designer, moral commands suggest a moral commander. moral laws must come from a moral law-giver.” – direct quotation from this video.
i mean, are you serious? how on earth can you figure that a fully developed, critically thinking adult human being is going to read this paragraph and actually be convinced by it? it’s literally just a bunch of bizarre pseudo-a priori nonsense that has no relation to “morality” whatsoever. he actually uses the word “proves”! PROVES! am i being trolled here?
well guys, i guess since the existence of morality Proves that god exists, the existence of laws of physics must also Prove that he exists. after all, design suggests a designer. oh, also, because trees exist, it Proves that god must exist, because someone had to put them there. you couldn’t just have trees without a Tree Creator, right? looks like Proof to me. (how am i even supposed to take someone seriously who uses the word “Proof” when talking about the supernatural? even if the argument made sense i wouldn’t be able to take it seriously.)
this may be the dumbest thing you have posted on this site yet, and you have posted some pretty dumb crap. remember, it’s never too late to just admit that the superstitious nonsense your parents brought you up with is a bunch of superstitious nonsense, and that now that you’re an adult you can think for yourself. it’s up to you and you alone to make that decision. no one else can make it for you.

Morality is not mere convention. It is something that is wired into us, and when we violate it, we are violating something more than opinion or human-made rules. It is not about getting along. If it were the above, a violation of one’s conscience or moral law would never be appalling, and Sartre’s & Camus’ absurdity would be much more prevalent in atheists.
Another note: I will never leave theism. It is wisdom-rich far beyond the understanding of someone on the outside, and the more I reflect on the world, the more convinced I am that the world has a creator. It is unreasonable not to be open to the possibility thereof. And foolish.
A hint: use the same email address when you post things and they won’t get stuck in a filter somewhere.
