Laudato Si
Is it a sin to go to confession in anticipation of the pagan end of the world on the 21st? Time for some soul-searching on the issues, as usual…
- Judge Bork died this morning, and may he rest in peace. Bork was a Catholic as of 2003, after leading a very distinguished life as a constitutional originalist judge. He was nominated for the SCOTUS, but the hellstorm that ensued due to what cannot be described as anything other than partisan bullshit kept him from the highest court in the land. A conservative through and through, there are many things in which Bork and libertarianism did not fully agree on. But one thing was for certain. The man was one of great virtue, and he will be missed.
- Old news: PSY is in trouble for singing about how the U.S. government kills people. The U.S. government, meanwhile, is praised for killing people.
- The annual “do you believe in any conspiracies?” reddit post is up. Always worth a laugh or two.
- Roosevelt knew that Pearl Harbor was headed our way before the Japanese attacked. He let it happen anyway, as an excuse to get us into the war. Wait, wait… scratch that. He caused it.
- Assange is still in hiding, and it is Bradley Manning’s birthday today. Poor dudes.
- Hint: When the Chinese can see that your monetary policy is impoverishing the people, you have a problem. Of course, The Bernank will continue until we are all broken by a failed dollar.
- “Was that a kid [I just drone-bombed]?” The conscience of a drone warrior must be a confusing place to be. From a moral perspective, briefly, it is important to note that war, to be conducted ethically, must target only those units and people needed to ensure self defense (evil things like drying out the civilian water supply, as is being done in Israel, is obviously wrong). Further, even the one you are attacking has the right to shoot back. You cannot shoot back at a drone and hope to accomplish anything. They are unethical for that reason alone, much less all the kids they are killing with their inaccurate targeting systems.
- Right to work laws are not the answer for libertarians. Here’s why.
- Billions of dollars of drug money laundering by HSBC with no prosecutions relates the truism that the war on drugs is a war by the powerful on the weak, and nothing more. It is not about morality, it is not about truth or justice. It is about power. The good news? Obama lets the mask slip slightly – he will not be prioritizing the war on weed.
- The Obama Administration is, on the other hand, pigeonholing charities re: tax-exempt status.
- A libertarian notes: there are different kinds of force.
- Google and Mozilla warn about internet freedom. Thanks for the heads up, guys – I had no idea.
- Why is copyright violation illegal when libraries give out free content every day by the millions? Revisiting the purpose in the Constitution might help us understand where we went wrong…
- Why is there apathy toward “secret kill lists”?
- Though it has been an ongoing purpose of the fourth branch of government for a long time, propaganda has now been officially legalized, via the NDAA. Avoid the news. Or you’ll be believing things like this.
- Uberfamous French Actor Gerard Depardieu leaves France after the top tax bracket is raised to 75% of qualifying income. The left does not seem to understand that incentives DO mean something in economics, and in their failure to see, France is losing wealth-producing millionaires in droves.
- The Clinton surplus was a myth, a simple accounting trick.
- Regime uncertainty cometh.
- In medieval times, the most that a government could extract from its citizens in taxes was 3-8% of GDP. Now, it is as high as 65%. Tax after tax after tax doesn’t mean we are getting richer, or even efficiently spreading the wealth. It means we are all getting poorer. Even if we wanted to, we couldn’t tax our way out of this. Mostly because $16 trillion is only a hint of what we owe.
- Gals: skinny>buff
- Good for guns: In Illinois, a recent ban on conceal-carry has been struck down.
- Fiat money supporters are a parody of themselves. I honestly HONESTLY cannot tell if this article (Obama Admin considering minting trillion dollar fiat coins to pay off debt) is parody or not.
- You are not the only reason you are getting fat. Money has something to do with it. Specifically, government money (language):
