Laudato Si
I have been pretty busy, but I still had time to rack up a big group of links that I have found fascinating or concerning. Here goes…
- There are two pretty big stories that the MSM has failed to bring to the attention of the public so far this year. They are too busy discussing things like Wiener’s indiscretions or sifting through Sarah Palin’s emails (can you imagine, by the way, if the right treated any woman on earth like the left treats Palin? Sexism would be the least of the claims leveled against them. Funny how that works…). The first story is something called the Gunrunner Scandal, and many are saying that it’s effects rival the Watergate Scandal as far as the Executive Branch is concerned (which by the way, the legal truth of the matter is that what was once crime for the Executive Branch appears to now be standard operating procedure). A series of federal subpoenas are set to reveal the DEA and FBI’s involvement in dealing arms to Mexican Drug Runners (your tax dollars at work!). One insider claims he “will be surprised if Eric Holder [the Attorney General] doesn’t end up in federal prison.” Not a peep on the networks of that. (Still not convinced the state has any control over the media? Further, a national study revealed that no one is really watching the watchmen, because local investigatory journalism has entered into a steep decline)… The second is a story about how food production has taken an explosive technological leap. I will let someone else explain it, in good ranting form:
There are a few reasons I think this second story has been widely ignored. As the video mentions, the myth of overpopulation has an unbreakable hold on the minds of many of the media mindset (which might even link to abortion views), and news that the world is not overpopulating as fast as many would like to believe would dispel this myth. I also think that positivism is only accepted, generally, when it supports agendas proclaiming that humans are not ends in themselves, rather humans are mere sideshows to nature or the means toward achieving the whims of our betters. Environmentalism, abortion, and the materialism that says our choices are merely chemicals in our brain directing us what to do (the innate nature of homosexuality paired with the assurances that it should never be tempered supports this one, for example – which lead of course to the question: is everything innate? the tendency to murder? the tendency to touch kids? Perhaps. But perhaps all of the above require self-control, just as all aspects of humanity do. If not, what is the point of the legal system again?) support this conclusion. Unfortunately for that type of thinking, it is one sided (as in, none would support it if it was creating choices that would be forced on them), and always use to support restrictive policies of poorer and darker-skinned nations than you’d find in the West. - Dirty Spending Secrets shows the absurdity of the special interest lobbying in Congress, as well as how effective it has been. *click* *RAGE* *click* *RAAAAAAAAGE*…
- 50% of the people in jail are there because of drug offenses. 6 million die every year from the legal tobbacco, while 0 die from the illegal weed. The facts are undeniable, about weed at least. And some are wising up, even in government.
- Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, and now Syria and Yemen in secret? War is holy, this I know, because Dear Leader tells me so. Are we trying to spark world war, here?
- In one of his many lectures that I have listened to, Lew Rockwell proclaimed that the view that freedom never works is one that has develops as a result of never having experience with freedom itself. It is true, and the continuing dependence we place on the government diminishes our ability to think otherwise.
- Our possible economic future in three scenarios: 1. We go full freedom and cut down the debt. 2. We continue on our path, and slowly destroy the country. 3. We start another World War, and set humanity back decades. Which will it be?
- If a revolution comes, what will it look like? Not likely the first one, from the looks of it. Perhaps more like the French Revolution. I can see it now…
- Patriotism is the last refuge of an idiot. No one is going to call you names for talking about how great America is. Calling into question America’s actions, however, is always grounds for someone misunderstanding or questioning your morality. Even though the accusations are often baseless, they are pretty much always effective. Funny how easy it is…
- Divorce costs us all lots of money. A social ail becomes economic, imagine that… Meanwhile, a study claims Obamacare would punish married couples via higher premiums. If it is true, what an inverted sense of morality we have created with our “compassion” toward unwed parents…
- Nuclear power is safer than coal power, and far cheaper than solar or wind power.
- I understand that the Posse Comitatus Act prevents our troops from being used against us citizens, but what is up with the Rex 84 Program? “A “scenario and drill”, developed by the United States federal government to suspend the United States Constitution, declare martial law, place military commanders in charge of state and local governments, and detain large numbers of American citizens who are deemed to be “national security threats”, in the event that the President declares a “State of Domestic National Emergency”.“? How comforting. A bit more, from the land of conspiracy, but warranted worry. And why is the Supreme Court sitting idle to such flagrant degradation of our rights (or even aiding in them)? I am not one to engage in conspiracy theories, but the powers being expanded over us should worry anyone (I also would note that if you have your finger on the pulse of the Intellectual Property law in the U.S., things ARE becoming increasingly and incredibly totalitarian. No longer are copyright holders to be responsible for their own content – the government is creating felonies for copyright infringement. Granted that somewhere abour 46% of the U.S. GDP is IP, the government does need to figure out a way to open up IP law slowly, but increasing its grip? If you think the prisons are overcrowded now…).
- Oh media and political spin, you slay me with your hypocrisy:
