Laudato Si
The political left has long toed the line between Marxism and Western democratic socialism. In the past century, almost to the year, the entire political paradigm has been dragged toward communitarianism gradually but immensely. Even those considering themselves on the political right support programs that put the needs of the many above the needs of the individual. The march continues, and the most conservative members of our society are generationally ideologically pulled toward collectivism.
Where extreme communitarianism has been tried, it has failed with disastrous results to life, rights, and property. But as things move further left, the past is forgotten and many call for a restructure of society in the manner of communism. I noted one instance last week.
One question yet remains: Why is the left forgetting how evil communism was?
