More like “Abuse and Remain Unaccountable.” Police have become more and more insulated from the law, and a new double standard blooms. Where it used to be politicians who were exempt from the laws and policies they enact, police and other low-level government workers are being added to the protected and exploitative class. This video shows how difficult filing a complaint against a police officer has become, and was compiled by a former policeman:
Some areas are worse than others. In Seattle, for example, cops regularly kill or maim citizens without serious legal or moral justification, and face little but paid administrative leave for it (Seattle police have the highest incidence of “lost or misplaced” dash-camera footage from their police cruisers, especially in cases where a complaint is filed). Like this officer, for example, who tells an arrestee that evidence will be fabricated to support conviction:
After an internal investigation of the circumstances surrounding this video, the department determined that there was no wrongdoing.
All the way down to the lowest levels, government breeds corruption. Most of those who are given power will abuse it.
